Canvas Builder is Zoho CRM’s drag-and-drop interface design tool. It lets you design the layout of any record view — deals, contacts, leads, accounts or custom modules — using a visual editor rather than a forms configuration panel. You work with a canvas instead of a field list, placing elements exactly where you want them and styling them to match your brand or your team’s working preferences.
Canvas views sit alongside the standard layout. You can create multiple Canvas designs for the same module and assign different views to different profiles or teams — so your inside sales team sees a compact deal view focused on activity and next steps, while your account managers see a relationship-focused view with full company history and deal timeline.
Replace plain text stage fields with colour-coded status badges. A deal at Proposal stage can show a green badge. A deal that has been stalled for more than 14 days can show a red alert indicator. Your team reads pipeline status at a glance instead of scanning individual fields.
In the default Zoho CRM layout, the most important fields are often buried halfway down the form. Canvas lets you put your key fields — deal value, close date, decision maker, last activity — at the top of the record where they are seen immediately. Less critical administrative fields go at the bottom or into a collapsible section.
Contact and account records can display photos or company logos pulled from image fields or integration sources. For businesses that manage a large contact database, visual identifiers help sales reps navigate records and remember context faster than reading a name alone.
Canvas supports progress bars built from formula fields or picklist values. A deal record can show a completion bar for the sales process. A project record can show delivery progress. These visual elements give reps immediate context on where a record sits in its lifecycle without opening a related module.
Canvas can display summary data from related modules inline on a record — for example, showing the total value of all open deals linked to an account, the number of open support tickets for a contact, or the last five activities on a lead. Information that would normally require navigating to a related list is visible on the primary record.
Standard page layouts and Canvas Builder solve different problems. Page layouts control which fields appear in a module and how they are grouped into sections. Canvas Builder controls how a completed record is presented visually — the design, the hierarchy of information and the visual styling.
The most effective Zoho CRM configurations use both: a well-structured page layout to control data entry (which fields are shown, which are required, which are conditional), and a Canvas view to present that data in a way that makes daily use faster and more intuitive. See the Zoho CRM page layouts guide for the layout configuration side.
Canvas Builder is available on Zoho CRM’s Enterprise and Ultimate plans. It is not included in Standard or Professional. For businesses on Professional who want Canvas Builder, upgrading to Enterprise is typically the trigger point — combined with blueprints and advanced analytics, it is the plan where the customisation capability most clearly matches the price increase.
See the Zoho CRM pricing guide for a full plan comparison including Canvas Builder availability.
For help designing and implementing Canvas Builder views that fit your specific process, the Zoho CRM consulting team at ABR can scope a customisation engagement around your requirements. For related content on custom modules and fields, see the Zoho CRM custom modules guide.
