From the checkout to the doorstep, with stock and books that agree.
Online stores live or die on operations: having the right stock, shipping fast and keeping customers informed. Zoho Inventory gives an e-commerce business one place to manage products, stock, orders, shipping and purchasing, connected to the storefront and to accounting. This guide walks through how it fits an online store, from the moment an order is placed to the moment the money is in your books. It is part of our Zoho Inventory guide.
Connect your storefront, such as Shopify or Zoho Commerce, to Zoho Inventory so orders flow in and stock flows out. Pick, pack and ship from Zoho Inventory with tracking sent to customers, reorder from vendors before you run out, and connect Zoho Books so every sale, payment and stock movement is recorded automatically.

| Products, stock and orders | Zoho Inventory | Single source of truth for stock |

| Purchasing and suppliers | Zoho Inventory | Reorder points and purchase orders |
| Accounting | Zoho Books | Invoices, payments, fees and stock value |

Many stores already run on Shopify, and Zoho Inventory connects to it so orders and stock sync. Businesses that want their store inside the Zoho suite can use Zoho Commerce, which shares items and stock with Zoho Inventory natively. Marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay and Etsy can run alongside either. If you sell on more than one, read our guide to multi-channel inventory sync.
A customer places an order on your store or marketplace.
The order arrives in Zoho Inventory and stock is committed so it cannot be sold twice.
The warehouse team picks the items, packs them and creates a package.
A shipment is created with your carrier, and tracking details go back to the store and the customer.
The invoice and payment are recorded, and with Zoho Books connected they post to accounting.
Stock levels update across every connected channel.
Zoho Inventory supports pick lists, packages and shipments, and connects to shipping carriers and shipping services so you can compare rates, print labels and track deliveries. Group orders into pick lists by warehouse to save walking time, and use packing slips so every parcel is checked against the order. Customers receive tracking information automatically once the shipment is created.
Set reorder points for your best sellers so Zoho Inventory alerts you before stock runs out, then raise purchase orders to suppliers in a few clicks. Backorders and dropship orders cover items you do not hold in stock. Running out of a best-seller costs more than the lost sale; our article on how Zoho Inventory protects your margins explains why.
Online stores often sell the same product in several sizes and colors, or as gift sets. Zoho Inventory handles item variants and composite items, so a bundle draws down stock of each component and you always know how many complete sets you can sell.
Returns are part of e-commerce. Record returns against the original order, decide whether returned items go back into sellable stock or are written off, and issue credit notes or refunds through Zoho Books so revenue and stock stay accurate. A clear returns process also gives you data on which products come back most and why.
Customers judge online stores on how well they are kept informed. With shipments created in Zoho Inventory, tracking details reach the store and the customer automatically. Keep order confirmation, shipping and delivery emails consistent with your brand, and set clear expectations on dispatch times in your store. Fewer where-is-my-order questions means less support work and more repeat customers.
Connect Zoho Inventory to Zoho Books and every sale, purchase and stock adjustment posts automatically. Record marketplace and payment fees so margins are real, reconcile payouts against orders and see the value of your stock on the balance sheet. Our Zoho Books setup guide covers getting the accounting side right.
For stores with wholesale buyers, business customers or high repeat rates, Zoho CRM adds customer history, follow-ups and sales pipelines on top of the order data. See our overview of Zoho CRM integrations for e-commerce businesses and the Zoho CRM Shopify integration.
Many online stores also sell to trade customers. Zoho Inventory can hold different price lists for retail and wholesale customers, so trade orders entered manually or through Zoho CRM use the right prices while still drawing on the same stock as the online store. Payment terms and invoices for wholesale customers then flow to Zoho Books like any other sale.
| Stage | Typical setup | Zoho Inventory plan |
|---|---|---|
| Starting out | One store, one location, a few hundred orders a month | Free or Standard |
| Growing | Store plus marketplaces, reorder points, shipping integrations | Professional |
| Scaling | Several warehouses and channels, higher order volume | Premium or Enterprise |
Plans are based mainly on monthly order volume, so you can start small and move up as orders grow. See our Zoho Inventory guide for current prices.
Organize stock so the fastest-moving items are closest to the packing area, label bins clearly and keep one SKU per bin where possible. In Zoho Inventory, record stock per warehouse if you have more than one location, and transfer stock between them with transfer orders so each location's count stays accurate. Regular cycle counts of your top items catch errors early.
A single store with a clean product list can usually be connected to Zoho Inventory and Zoho Books within one to two weeks, including a stock count and test orders. Adding marketplaces, several warehouses or bundles takes longer, mostly for cleaning SKUs and testing each channel before going live.
If your accounting still runs on QuickBooks or Xero, plan that move too. Our accountant-led Zoho Books migration usually takes four to six weeks.
