What each plan really costs, and which one your business needs.
Zoho Books is one of the most affordable accounting platforms for small businesses, but the plans differ in more than price: users, invoice limits and features change at each step. This guide sets out every US plan, what each includes, the conditions on the free plan, the extra costs to budget for and which plan fits different businesses. It is part of our Zoho Books guide.
Zoho Books has a free plan for businesses under $50,000 in annual revenue. US paid plans cost $15 (Standard), $40 (Professional) and $60 (Premium) per organization per month billed annually, or $20, $50 and $70 billed monthly. Elite costs $150 and Ultimate $275 per month billed monthly, with Ultimate at $240 billed annually.
| Plan | Annual billing (per month) | Monthly billing | Users included | Invoices per year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 1 plus accountant | 1,000 |
| Standard | $15 | $20 | 3 | 5,000 |
| Professional | $40 | $50 | 5 | 10,000 |
| Premium | $60 | $70 | 10 | 25,000 |
| Elite | See Zoho's pricing page | $150 | 10 | 100,000 |
| Ultimate | $240 | $275 | 15 | 100,000 |
Prices are per organization in US dollars. Canada, the UK, India and other regions have local editions and pricing. Always confirm on the Zoho Books pricing page, as Zoho adjusts plans from time to time.
The free plan stays free while your financial-year revenue stays under $50,000. It includes up to 1,000 invoices a year, quotes, expenses, journals, recurring invoices, payment reminders, online payments, a client portal, bank reconciliation and dozens of reports, for one user plus your accountant. The main limits are no automatic bank feeds, a single user and email-only support. Once revenue passes $50,000, you need a paid plan.
Three users, up to 5,000 invoices a year and automatic bank feeds, which is the main reason most businesses leave the free plan. A good fit for small service businesses with a few people touching the books.
Five users, up to 10,000 invoices a year and features growing businesses need, such as bills and purchase tracking, project profitability and multi-currency invoicing. The most common choice for established small businesses.
Ten users and up to 25,000 invoices a year, with more advanced controls and automation for teams with several people in finance and operations.
Higher limits of up to 100,000 invoices a year and advanced capabilities such as more complete inventory management and built-in analytics, for larger or more complex businesses.
Annual billing costs noticeably less than paying month to month: Standard is $15 a month billed annually versus $20 billed monthly, and Professional is $40 versus $50. If you are confident in your choice after the 14-day free trial, annual billing saves a meaningful amount each year.
Zoho Books runs regional editions with local tax support and local currency pricing, including Canada, the UK, Australia and India. Plans follow the same structure, but prices, limits and some features differ by region. Canadian businesses should check the Canadian pricing page, where plans are priced in Canadian dollars and taxes such as GST and HST are supported.
| Business | Suggested plan | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Freelancer under $50K revenue | Free | Full accounting at no cost; add bank feeds later |
| Small service business, 2 to 3 people | Standard | Bank feeds and enough users |
| Growing business with bills, projects or foreign customers | Professional | Purchases, project profitability, multi-currency |
| Team of 6 to 10 in finance and operations | Premium | More users and controls |
| High volume or complex operations | Elite or Ultimate | Highest limits and advanced features |
Using the US prices above, here is what a year of Zoho Books costs for three typical businesses, on annual billing:
| Business | Plan | Yearly cost |
|---|---|---|
| Consultant, solo, under $50K revenue | Free | $0 |
| Agency with 3 people | Standard | $15 x 12 = $180 |
| Product business with 5 users | Professional | $40 x 12 = $480 |
These figures cover Zoho Books only. Payment gateway fees, extra users and other apps are additional.
If you also need CRM, help desk, email marketing or other business apps, price Zoho One, which includes Zoho Books alongside Zoho's other apps under one subscription. Businesses using three or more Zoho apps often pay less with the bundle than with separate subscriptions. Compare with our Zoho CRM pricing guide if CRM is part of the decision.
Zoho Books offers a 14-day free trial of its paid plans, which is enough time to connect a bank account, send a few invoices and test the features you need before choosing. If you are unsure between two plans, trial the higher one, note which features you actually used and choose the plan that covers them. Our setup guide walks through the first steps.
Zoho Books is usually cheaper than QuickBooks Online and Xero at the same level, and it is one of the few accounting platforms with a genuine free plan. The trade-off is user limits on each plan. For the full comparison, read QuickBooks vs Zoho Books and Xero vs Zoho Books.
For most small businesses, yes, once revenue or team size outgrows the free plan. The time saved by bank feeds, rules, reminders and recurring invoices typically outweighs the monthly fee within the first month or two, and an accountant who can log in directly usually spends less billable time on your books.
Upgrade when you approach your plan's invoice or user limit, when revenue passes $50,000 on the free plan, or when you need a feature from the next plan, such as bills, project profitability or multi-currency on Professional. Upgrading takes effect quickly, so there is no need to buy ahead of your needs.
