Today we’re diving into a powerful feature inside Zoho Recruit that can make your hiring process more organized and efficient: field customization.
Every business has unique needs when it comes to recruitment. The information you track, how you structure it, and how it connects to other tools all impact how smooth your hiring workflow feels. With Zoho Recruit, you aren’t stuck with a “one size fits all” setup. Instead, you can fully customize fields to match your exact requirements.
In this guide, we’ll walk through how to customize fields inside Zoho Recruit step by step, explore why sections and field types matter, and highlight how integrations like RingCentral take things even further.
When you open a record in Zoho Recruit—such as a job opening—you’ll see fields displayed on the screen. These fields aren’t locked. They’re fully customizable, so you can design the layout to capture the information most important to your team.
Go to Settings in the upper right corner.
Under Customization, click on Modules.
Select the module you’d like to edit—for this example, Job Openings.
This will open the editable view of your module, showing you the layout exactly as it appears on records.
Zoho Recruit makes customization simple with drag-and-drop functionality. On the left-hand side, you’ll see different field types available. You can:
Add a new section by dragging it into place.
Title the section to keep your information well-organized.
Drag and drop fields into each section as needed.
Not all fields are created equal. Zoho Recruit gives you multiple field types, and choosing the correct one ensures your system works smarter for you.
Examples include:
Phone Number Field: Unlike a generic number field, this recognizes entries as phone numbers. If you integrate with a phone system, you can click directly to call.
Date and Time Fields: Perfect for scheduling interviews or tracking deadlines.
Currency Fields: Useful for salary ranges, budgets, or costs.
One practical example is using the phone number field with a phone system integration. With RingCentral, you can make calls directly from Zoho Recruit by clicking on the candidate’s number.

This small customization creates a big efficiency gain—you no longer need to copy and paste numbers or toggle between tools.
Customizing fields isn’t limited to adding new ones. You can edit existing fields to make sure they serve your needs.
Here’s how:
Hover over the field you’d like to update.
Click on the Settings icon.
Select Edit Properties.
From here, you can:
Rename the field.
Make it a required field to ensure your team always enters that data.
Mark it as a unique identifier to prevent duplicate entries.
Enable it for publishing on your career site if you want candidates to see or fill that field when applying.
Note that some system defined fields cannot be edited.
Once you’ve made your changes, don’t forget to save! Simply click Save Layout at the bottom of the screen. Your new sections and fields will now be live and ready for use.
Field customization inside Zoho Recruit puts you in control of your data. By organizing fields into sections, choosing the right field types, and leveraging integrations like RingCentral, you can transform your recruitment process into a seamless, efficient workflow.
The best part? It’s all intuitive—just drag, drop, edit, and save.
